Some say, 'I can't afford to give;' actually we can't afford not to give. Giving obligates God and brings Him into the realm of our finances. God not only promises to provide for us, but He takes it a step further by promising that He will flood our lives with all kinds of blessings, including financial blessings. All we have to do is trust Him enough to take action.
Proverbs 3:9-10 "Honor the LORD with your substance and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine."
Everything we have is Gods. He has entrusted us with different portions of money to manage wisely. Part of being a good money manager is giving back to God a portion of what he has given us. We give to God regularly in the form of tithes and offerings:
Tithe means a tenth and refers to the first ten percent of all our income. The Bible tells us that the tithe belongs to God and it is to be set-aside for Him (
Lev 27:30 ) and it is to be brought to the storehouse (
Mal 3:10 ) on the first of the week (I Cor.16:1-2). Today that storehouse is the local church, and the principle is that we tithe where our family and we receive our spiritual food.
Offerings mean any amount over and above our tithes. In
Malachi 3 the principle is taught that when the membership tithe and bring offerings there will be more than enough to meet all the needs of the ministry.
We need not fear running out of money, because God has promised to provide for our needs, even to provide more than we need. Do not give out of guilt. Give because you love God and you love people. Know that when you give you are sharing in every person's life affected through this ministry. When you see the impact this ministry is making you realize that you will reap a temporal and eternal dividend on every person touched by The Met,
Luke 6:38 .
