Under his leadership the church retired a large indebtedness, grew to over 2300 members.  The facilities were remodeled and new services added to accommodate the Sunday morning crowds. In 1990 he led The First Baptist Church of Fort Worth in a historic return to the fellowship of the Southern Baptist Convention.  In August 1996 he led the church to begin an extension that soon became a mission church called the Metroport Cities Fellowship or The Met Church in Southlake, Texas.  For six months he preached in both locations every Sunday until he resigned the Fort Worth church in February 1997 to give his full time commitment to The Met.
